First Initiative Foundation and Shakespeare4All

A remarkable programme bringing Shakespeare to Hong Kong youth of all ages.

In 2017, First Initiative Foundation (FIF) began its support of Shakespeare4All (S4A). A non-profit organization, S4A brings the joy of Shakespeare and stage performance to children across Hong Kong. Children from all backgrounds and schools in Hong Kong are invited to audition to take part in a yearly production of one of the Bard’s plays. From age 6 to 16, more than 80 young aspiring actors and literature lovers create a memorable performance with the help of devoted S4A directors, teachers and volunteers.

A particular value of this performance-based initiative is building confidence and igniting children’s love for education in literature and drama. With the help of English tutors supporting individual children’s needs, the actors are able to understand and perform original Shakespearean text, vastly improving their confidence in English. This remarkable community and educational outreach is truly worth supporting.

FIF was pleased to contribute to the 2017 gala production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, a fantastic performance featuring a cast of 80 enthusiastic young actors, and 20 talented musicians in orchestra.
